Telepsychiatry in Montgomery County, NC — Medicaid Accepted
About 25,000 people live in Montgomery County. Almost no psychiatric prescribers work here. Troy is the county seat. Biscoe, Star, Mount Gilead and Candor sit close by. For years, a psychiatry visit meant a 35-mile drive east to Pinehurst. And only if that office took new patients on your plan. Many people give up before they ever get in.
Pinnacle Behavioral Health and Wellness sees Montgomery County by secure video. You meet with Afi Kpakossou, PMHNP-BC, from your own kitchen table. Most people get in within days, not months. And we take NC Medicaid. That is the part that surprises people.
Serving Troy and all of Montgomery County. North Carolina residents only.
Who we help in Montgomery County
We are a psychiatry practice. We diagnose, and we prescribe. Here is what people in Montgomery County come to us for:
- ADHD evaluation and treatment
Full testing for adults and teens who were never checked. Then we manage the medicine and the refills.
- Depression
Help for low mood that will not lift. Shift work and long drives can make it worse.
- Anxiety and panic
Care for worry that never shuts off. Also panic attacks, and the fear that shrinks your week.
- Medication management
Refills, dose changes, and straight talk about side effects. Scripts go to your pharmacy in Troy, Biscoe or Star.
We see adults and teens. We are a psychiatry practice. That means we test, we diagnose, and we prescribe. If you need something we do not offer, we will say so plainly. Read more about how our telepsychiatry works.
We accept Medicaid
Most big telehealth brands do not take Medicaid. They want cash or private insurance. That leaves many Montgomery County families with a plan they cannot use. We are not like that. We take NC Medicaid. We check your plan before your first visit, so there are no surprises.
NC Medicaid plans we are in-network with
- Healthy Blue (Blue Cross NC)
- WellCare of North Carolina
- Carolina Complete Health
- AmeriHealth Caritas North Carolina
- UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of North Carolina
Not on Medicaid? You can pay out of pocket. We will tell you the cost before you book. See our full Medicaid page.

Instead of the drive out of Montgomery County
FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy handles emergencies and family care. It is not a psychiatry clinic. For ongoing care, people here have driven 35 miles east to Pinehurst. Some drove 70 miles to Charlotte or Greensboro.
That is half a day gone for a 30-minute visit. Add gas. Add time off work. Add someone to watch the kids. In winter, over the Uwharrie hills, it is worse. A video visit cuts out the drive. The care is the same care.

Yes. We take NC Medicaid managed care plans. That includes Healthy Blue, WellCare of North Carolina, Carolina Complete Health, AmeriHealth Caritas, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Call or text (336) 828-2599 and we will check your plan first.
