Continuity Through Breaks

One of the biggest advantages of telehealth: you can keep seeing the same provider during summer break, winter break, or study abroad. Your care continues wherever you are in North Carolina.

No More Switching Providers

Many students struggle when they go home for breaks—they have to find a new provider, transfer records, and start over. With telehealth, you keep the same provider who knows your history and what works for you.

Whether you're on campus, at home in Charlotte, or visiting family in Raleigh, your care continues seamlessly.

Psychiatric Medication Management for College Students: What to Expect

Starting psychiatric medication in college raises many practical questions. How long will it take to work? What side effects should I watch for? How do I get refills over summer or winter break? What if the medication stops working or causes problems? Can I manage this without telling my parents? Our providers answer all of these questions clearly — during the initial evaluation and at every follow-up. Informed patients stick with treatment longer and get better results.

Managing medication in college requires extra care. Irregular sleep and eating affect how medications work. Alcohol and cannabis can interact with medications. We guide you through these factors.

ADHD Medication Management in College

ADHD stimulants need close watch. In NC, they are controlled drugs. Our team follows all state rules with care.

Non-stimulant ADHD medications are a good option for many students. These include atomoxetine (Strattera), extended-release guanfacine (Intuniv), and bupropion (Wellbutrin). They work well for students who do not tolerate stimulants, have contraindications, or prefer to avoid controlled substances. These medications take longer to work — usually 4 to 8 weeks. But they do not carry the same regulatory complexity as stimulants. They may be a better fit for students with irregular schedules or substance use histories.

Antidepressants and Anxiolytics for Student Mental Health

SSRIs are the first-line medication for anxiety disorders and depression in college students. Common options include sertraline (Zoloft), escitalopram (Lexapro), and fluoxetine (Prozac). SSRIs are generally well tolerated and non-addictive. They work well for the range of anxiety and depressive presentations common in students. Our providers explain the expected response timeline — typically 4 to 8 weeks. We also cover common early side effects like mild nausea, fatigue, or sleep changes in the first week or two.

Telehealth makes medication follow-up fast and convenient. Once your treatment plan is stable, a 15 to 20-minute video visit is typically enough for a check-in. These brief appointments fit around classes, lunch breaks, and dorm life. Insurance covers most follow-up visits. Our team confirms your coverage before each appointment.
