Psychiatric Medication Management in North Carolina

Medication management is a cornerstone of effective psychiatric care for many mental health conditions. At Pinnacle Behavioral Health & Wellness, our board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioners provide expert evaluation and ongoing management of psychiatric medications for adults across North Carolina via telepsychiatry. We treat conditions including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, insomnia, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Effective medication management begins with a thorough psychiatric evaluation. During your initial appointment, your provider will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your current symptoms, psychiatric history, medical history, family history, current medications. Any previous medication trials. This evaluation allows your provider to develop a personalized medication plan tailored to your specific needs and circumstances. We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. The right medication and dose for one patient may not be appropriate for another. Our providers take the time to understand your individual situation before making any prescribing decisions.

Common Medications We Manage

Our providers manage a wide range of psychiatric medications. For depression and anxiety, we prescribe SSRIs like sertraline, fluoxetine. Escitalopram, as well as SNRIs like venlafaxine and duloxetine. For mood disorders, we use mood stabilizers such as lithium, lamotrigine. Valproic acid. We also prescribe atypical antipsychotics when needed. For ADHD, we offer non-stimulants like atomoxetine and guanfacine, and stimulants for patients with a documented ADHD diagnosis.

In addition to initiating and adjusting medications, our providers closely monitor for side effects and therapeutic response at each follow-up appointment. We use validated clinical rating scales to track your progress over time and make data-driven adjustments to your treatment plan. If a medication is not achieving the desired therapeutic effect or is causing intolerable side effects, your provider will work with you to identify alternatives and develop a safe transition plan.

Medication Management Without Leaving Home

One of the most significant advantages of telepsychiatry-based medication management is convenience. You can attend your appointments from your home, office, or any private location in North Carolina without the need to travel to a clinic. This is particularly valuable for patients in rural areas, those with mobility challenges, those with demanding work or family schedules. Those who experience social anxiety or agoraphobia that makes in-person visits difficult.

Prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy following your appointment. For ongoing medication management patients, our providers aim to schedule regular follow-up appointments at intervals appropriate to your treatment plan. Typically monthly for new medication starts and every two to three months for stable patients on established regimens. Our patient portal allows you to request refills, send secure messages to your provider between appointments, and review your medication history at any time.
